Know Your Sponsor: MOTUS’ Graeme Wood
In the first of our new series of getting to know our sponsors, we spoke with MOTUS’ Graeme Wood
We are so grateful that MOTUS continues to be a longstanding sponsor of Nomads. What is it about golf, and Nomads in particular, that makes it an attractive partner to work with?
At Motus, we love golf and we recognise the values that Nomads holds. We too believe in giving back to the communities, so it is a good fit for us. The Nomads footprint in South Africa closely matches ours.
Tell us a little about your golfing ability – we know you are an Easterns Nomad with over 100 games. Where do you mostly play?
I am a member at both Benoni Country Club and Bryanston. I’m not very good – my Handicap Index is 16.6 – but I am proud to have won the Gary Player with Philip Michaux in the past, as well as the Rhodesian eclectic. I strive to get back to those lofty heights some day.
I love everything about golf, I just wish I had a bit more skill.
What is your ultimate golfing destination? And who would you play with?
I would love to tee it up at St Andrews Old Course one day. My dream fourball would be Ernie Els, my brother John and I’d bring Philip along just to watch him play out of those bunkers!
The MOTUS Challenge is one of the highlights on the Nomads calendar. What makes this event special for you?
Firstly, it is at the magical Champagne Sports Resort, which is such a special place. Secondly, Robbie Frank organises it, so you now that everything will run smoothly and finally that it supports junior golf.
Please tell us briefly about the different branches that make up the Motus business.
We represent all major vehicle brands in South Africa. One in every five new cars is sold through a MOTUS dealership. We have a great new website you should visit. www.motus.cars, one place where you can safely do it all… Buy, sell, trade in, finance, or even book a service for your car.
What are the strengths of MOTUS that makes it the leading automotive retail brand for people who are looking to upgrade their vehicles?
I’d have to say that economies of scale are arguably our biggest strength, because it allows us to offer a wide range of services at the best prices.
We have more than 70 years of car retail experience and on average, we have 10 000 used and demo cars in stock at any point in time. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, you can search any of 25 new vehicle brands on our website.
We also own Europcar, which rents out 35% of all car rentals in South Africa, E-Z Go golf carts and Midas.
We distribute Hyundai, Kia, Renault and Mitsubishi vehicles in South Africa, with franchised dealerships in every province in the country.
If you had one piece of advice for a Nomad looking to replace their vehicle, what would it be?
I’d ask Nomads to please give us a chance and we won’t let you down. Visit www.motus.cars, which is home to over 300 real dealerships and is really a one-stop-car-shop where you can do it all.
If you still can’t find what you want, please drop me an email on gwood@cargomotors.co.za and I’ll be there to help. Of course, we do offer special deals to our friends at Nomads.
