    Fundraising Support for Disabled Athletes

The NATIONAL PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE OF SOUTH AFRICA (NAPCOSA) in conjunction with the then BOE Corporate and NOMADS created, in 1998, a development fund to be used exclusively for the upliftment of disadvantaged, disabled athletes in an effort to provide quality of life and opportunities that they very definitely would not have had without such support.
In recent times the BOE Corporate participation has been replaced by Nedbank Corporate. Following a corporate re-shuffle Nedbank decided to withdraw their sponsorship of these events consequently the pattern changed and since 2004 no finals have been played. However such is the popularity of these days the Clubs have decided to perpetuate the event in a similar format in their individual capacity from 2006.

A brief overview of NAPCOSA

NAPCOSA was formed in February 1994 by its three constituent national controlling member bodies - being the SA Sports Association for Physically Disabled (SASAPD) (including visually impaired); the SA Sports Association  for Severely Mentally Handicapped (SASASMH) and the SA Deaf Sports Federation (SADSF).
Its main objective is to act as the controlling body to recognise the rights of the disabled to participate in sports activities at all levels.
It is responsible for the selection and funding of South African teams attending Paralympic Games or any World Championships recognised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and is the SA member of the IPC.

NAPCOSA was born of a request from the IPC and has since proved to be totally effective in that it has been recognised and given a seat on the Executive Committee of the National Sports Council (NSC) for the purpose of representing all disabled sporting groups in South Africa.
The National controlling bodies affiliated to NAPCOSA remain responsible for the affairs of their constituents  including, inter alia, training and development, regions and clubs, National and International competitions (other than those International events recognised as World Championships by IPC) and other matters regarded as their domestic concern.
They also retain their obligations and rights in respect of those international organisations to which they are affiliated in respect of the specific disabilities controlled by them.
NAPCOSA  is controlled by a Council, which comprises four nominated members of each National controlling body and its day to day affairs are controlled by an Executive which is elected by the Council. The members of the Executive are elected for periods of four years terminating after each Paralympic Games.

GOLF DAYS

Nomads Clubs around the country dedicated either one of their monthly meetings or set aside a day as a special event for the annual BOE Corporate (Nedbank Corporate) Golf Day.
Each of the Divisional winners on these occasions qualified to participate in the Finals which were usually held at some prestigious South Coast resort course. Along with the golf the fortunate few were treated royally to all sorts of pre-final social events and qualifying for this exceptional "treat" featured as a major part of the individual Nomads calendar.

FUNDS RAISED

At the above-mentioned golf days funds are raised and these are passed on to NAPCOSA. Since the inception of this wonderful idea the Clubs have raised the following funds in support:-
