CURRENT CLUB CAPTAIN:            PAT FRAMPTON

BRIEF HISTORY:        This Club is, either directly or indirectly, the parent Club of all SA Nomads Golf Clubs as well as those affiliated to us in other parts of the world.

Formed in 1960 as a result of the break up of the NUMICS industrial golf organisation the "Follow the Sun" NOMADS Golf Club came into being officially in April 1960, with 106 Founder Members attending the first monthly meeting scheduled for the first Saturday in May at the Glendower Golf Club. The meeting was washed out and the second attempt at Parkview was also partially disrupted by rain so it was June before the first complete official NOMADS meeting took place, this time at the Irene Golf Club.

The success of the new club was immediate and membership numbers soon rose to the point where it was closed as it was impossible to accommodate all those wanting to play. This led to the arrangement of away tours to the Eastern Transvaal and Durban where games were played against local clubs.

The emphasis of the Nomads Golf Club is to encourage Members to play as many of the monthly meetings as possible. This has the resultant effect of restricting the overall Membership of any Club to about 200 Members. To accommodate as many players as possible the Transvaal Club devised a policy of playing some of its games mid-week (Thursday) and the remainder of their games over a weekend.
Due to either family or business pressures, some of the Members could not play at one or the other time and this enabled the Club to swell its Membership for some while. However even this failed to reduce the continued pressure to increase the Membership level of the Transvaal Club.
As a result it was decided in 1966 that a Northern Transvaal Club (now called Northerns) would be formed with a group of Founder Members mainly originating from that contingent of Transvaal Nomads whose residential qualifications placed them more in the Pretoria than the Johannesburg area.
Several years later, in 1978, a similar situation resulted in the formation of the Eastern Transvaal Nomads Golf Club (now called Easterns) for whom the residential qualification tended more towards the East Rand area.
